Final Video Story

For my Final video story, i decided to visual depict the day in the life of a student-athlete. I thought that this was important topic, not because it is relevant to my overall topic throughout the class, but because of my student-athlete status, people are curious and i often get asked about the activities i condone in by my peers. My inspiration for this project came from my day to day life and what i see and experience that others may not. For starters, we have great football facilities here on WSU campus and in my video story, you can in fact see glimpses of areas that non students-athletes may not recognize because of the exclusiveness for just the athletes and staff.

Gathering and recording the film needed for this project was a fun experience. With the permission of coaches, my teammates and the available tutors, i was able to film, parts of the locker room, a weight training session and a study session. I also filmed quick videos of me walking into the facility and other various clips i thought would be important for the viewers.

Even though recording the video clips during the week was enjoyable for me, the funnest part of the entire part for me was the editing. For my first time not only using premiere but editing video period, I never thought I’d enjoy editing video as much as i did. Some steps i took were shaving down excess film to meet the time requirement, and putting in transitions from clips to make the visual more appealing. Some things i thought were important was the right about volume throughout the video. I thought it was important not import music until the end and leave in the low audio from the original clips so that viewer can receive a full experience from what is taking place in each clip. Overall, this project was extremely fun and helpful to add into my toolbox, thank you.

Final Audio Audition Project

For this audio project, I decided to complete a one on one interview with a current student-athlete. I went with this route because with my main topic being “The Life of a Student Athlete”, I figured it would be a great idea to have a current student-athlete come and join me to answer a couple brief questions that are in relations with topic.

The process of the interview went very smooth. I asked a reliable student-athlete here at WSU named Brandon Arconado to participate in a quick interview and he accepted. I had three brief but relevant questions written down and ready to be asked. The questions I came up with were, 1. As a Student athelte, what does your daily schedule consist of? 2. What is the biggest difference between being a student athlete and a regular student? 3. What do you think the best incentive is when it comes to being a student athlete? The location of the interview was a quiet study room in the WSU football operations building. The device I used to audio record the interview was my personal iPhone and the app that I used was the base app called “Voice Memos”. The key elements I focused on during the interview consisted of making sure both of our voices were clear, and making sure the device was working properly. The interview also consisted of 3 clips, the introduction where I stated who I am and the purpose of the interview, the actual interview, and finally closing with a thank you.

After the interview was completed, I uploaded the audio files from my smartphone to my laptop where I then, started my editing on Adobe Audition. First I opened up Multitrack and imported the 3 audio files I wanted, then I simply dragged the 3 clips and made sure they were in order. I then cropped out some unnecessary noises in the beginnings and endings of all three clips. After this, I took a listen to the audio in its entirety and it sounded great. I then saved the recording and uploaded it into Soundcloud.

Some troubles I had included retakes during the actual interview because of audio problems, and properly uploading the audio files into audition. Overall this project was fun and happy to add another skill in my toolbox.

Final Logo Project

For my Final logo, I wanted to create an image that is creative, simple and worth looking at. I also wanted to, of course, make it relevant to my class topic, which is the Life of a Student-Athlete. My inspiration for my logo did not come from other logos online, yet it came from my personal daily experiences as a student-athlete and managed to put these experiences in Logo form. All the objects used including the football, the dumbbell weights, the books and the goal post are all visual reputations of what student-athletes have to experience on a daily basis. The football from obviously playing the game of football, the dumbbells represent the daily workouts in which we endure, the red and green books which represent the student side of our lives. These objects are centered in the goalpost to give a visual of the tasks we as student-athletes focus on, on a daily basis.

I placed the lettering, “LOACA” in black with a crimson background to give slight relevance to Washington State university’s school colors. LOACA means “Life of A Collegiate Athlete” which is my topic. I decided to go with an abbreviation of the title because in my opinion, the logo is something that will not be looked at too long so I concluded that I would keep it short and sweet. For the process I used the shape tool to make the outline. Then to make the football I traced a photo with the pen tool. The field goal post was made with rectangles and then connected with the shape tool. I also used rectangles to create the weights and books but simply rounded the corners.

I was extremely satisfied with how my draft came out but some visuals I changed include making a black outline outside of the goal post, making it pop a tad bit more. I also added more detail to the football, adding a black outline to make more appealing. Finally, I decided to take out the “A” in “LOACA” just to make it look cleaner and easier to understand. I hope you like the logo.

Final Graphic Design Project

The creative process during the completion of my Graphic Design Project has been very interesting. Although the photoshop tutorial that was assigned this past week did help a tremendous amount, I am still relatively new to the program and had some barriers to overcome. The topic that I chose to do was The Life of A Student-Athlete. This was a topic a chose because I can relate to the topic as much as possible therefore I am credible to explain my topic. For my design, I decided to do a book cover. I chose to do a book cover over other methods because the purpose of my topic is to explain and be informative about the life of a student-athlete, so i believe using a book cover would be the best way of utilizing and showcasing the purpose.

For the three image collection photos, I chose three photos that were all taken by me via Iphone. These photos were both relevant to the topic and simple in a way that is understanding even without the captions. I chose a photo where a student-athlete is serving himself at the student athlete cafeteria, another picture where student-athletes are lifting weights in the afternoon, and finally the third picture is the indoor athletic facility where the student-athletes perform cardio conditioning in the morning. All these photo depict their activities so i found it important to include it to the book cover. Inspiration for my design came from brainstorming ideas that would give a sport-like mixed with a very direct feel to the design and I believe it turned out well.

My creative process was simple, using the words “RUN, SCHOOL, LIFT” in a large font to attract the readers while also listing the title in a readable font and size to get understand of the topic of the book. I chose to set my three pictures for the background but inside the lettering of the three main words. I thought this would look more creative instead of casually setting the pictures in the corners of the cover. I implemented the black background to make the lettering pop and easy to see. I believed any other other color would of been too distracting. For my final draft, I added a white stroke around the letters to make the letter stand out more. I also added an inner glow to the black box background to depict better depth and transition from light to dark. Overall, the creative process was very interesting but fun as I am excited to learn and be efficient enough to implement these newfound skills into future opportunities and situations.
